FOCUS GROUPS
WHO: Every student will be eligible to participate in these rotating focus groups. WHEN: The groups will run for 6 weeks (6 sessions), lasting for 30 minutes, happening once a week with Mr. Eric and Ms. Katie, our amazing social work interns from UNH. HOW: Students will be chosen by their classroom teacher to participate in a focus group. WHERE: The groups will take place outside of the classroom in a quiet and private place. WHY: Focus groups address issues including skills for learning (respectful listening), building and developing empathy, problem-solving through challenging situations, and managing emotions (disappointment, anger, stress, anxiety, etc.) |
INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING
*Brief,solution focused counseling. Who: Every student has access to both the school counselors every day. When: We are available to work with students at various times during the day. The classroom teacher and the school counselors will arrange an appropriate time for the appointment to happen. How: Students may ask their teacher to see the school counselors, teachers may refer students to the school counselors and parents may request the school counselor makes an appointment to visit with their child. Where: My office is located in room C163 Why: Individual counseling helps students learn strategies to calm down, handle strong feelings, manage behavior, and get along with others so they can be happy, safe, and successful at school. |
Classroom Guidance Lessons
Who: Every student will experience whole class guidance lessons!
Why:Whole class lessons provide developmental and preventative approaches to a number of relevant topics.
Where: Lessons will happen in your child's classroom with your 2 school counselors and your principal and assistant principal.
When: Twice a month one of the counselors or administrators will visit your child's classroom and provide a 30 minute lesson to the students about how to regulate emotions and to work on having a growth mindset.
